“You are not going to pass your GCSE’s, in fact you are not going to pass in life” were the life changing words thrusted at Karim while in his final year at secondary school from his teacher. In the last 12 years Abdul-Karim has completed his BA Hons, supported thousands of young people across the country and is known as a London community champion recently featured in the Evening Standard. He has worked tirelessly combating youth violence, produced a documentary, and is now helping to impact policy around saving lives. He is the chair of the Lambeth Stop & Search monitoring group, vice chair of Lambeth Independent Advisory Group, London Independent Youth Safety Advisory board member advising government, Muslim Council of Britain’s youth working group member, Scotland Yard’s London Muslim Group member but most importantly a local Youth Worker. An astonishing 237 votes has ensured his place on this shortlist.
