COMMUNITY ORGANISATION AWARD FOR GENDER –
Waiting for an autism diagnosis can be a lonely, isolating experience for both the child and their parents (wait times are over 18 months). Gemma Gray found herself in this situation while awaiting her daughter’s autism assessment and looked for a specific group for autistic girls and their families. Nothing existed and so Gemma set up Colouring Outside The Lines, a volunteer led, peer-to-peer support group for autistic girls and their families. This incredible group, the first of its kind in the UK, provides moral support and advice online as well as face-to-face meet ups in Edinburgh. Since 2016 Colouring Outside The Lines has grown to over 2,400 active Facebook members, changing the lives of many autistic girls and their parents by simply bringing people together to share experiences.
SHARING IS CARING!
