iiChild

SHORTLISTED NOMINEE:

COMMUNITY ORGANISATION AWARD FOR MULTI-STRAND –

iiChild is a charitable organisation whose pursuit is to address Social Justice; it seeks to redress the balance of social mobility by creating fun learning projects for disadvantaged children and young people in London. It was established in Southwark by Elaine Joseph, a youth worker who became concerned about the number of young people and children left wandering about the local housing estates during the school holidays. In August 2011, iiChild ran the first phase of the organisation’s projects, its Holiday Camps, under the theme “Enterprise Against Crime”. With support from the Mayor of London’s Kitchen Social campaign they now open their doors to 50 children and young people each day, by providing a positive, happy and safe environment for hundreds of at risk children throughout school holiday periods. This vital project supports low-income families with affordable daycare.
