Midland Langar Seva Society

SHORTLISTED NOMINEE:

COMMUNITY ORGANISATION AWARD FOR RACE, RELIGION & FAITH –

As more people fall through the net of basic society where no-one goes hungry, this religiously motivated group to help everyone regardless of religion, creed or colour is inspirational. Midland Langar Seva Society (MLSS) help the homeless and provide food/hunger relief to those in need. Langar is the term used in the Sikh religion or in Punjab for common kitchen where food is served for free to anyone, regardless of religion or background. MLSS is a non-profit organisation based in Walsall, but serves many other cities. Just serving 15 meals 3 years ago at their first homeless feed, MLSS now provides around 11,000 meals a week in 16 cities across the UK and 2 abroad. Their current project “Guru Nanak Langar Bus” aims to make their food services mobile. The dedication of their 100+ volunteers and those that donate the food is absolutely humbling.
