Rachael Pearson

SHORTLISTED NOMINEE:

POSITIVE ROLE MODEL AWARD FOR GENDER –

Rachael Pearson is an autism ambassador and founder of autism isolation no more, a role which she undertakes unpaid. Married with 4 children, 2 of which are on the autism spectrum, Rachael has made it her mission to support families affected by this disorder. In 2013, this incredible mother stood on stage and discussed the need for support for families like hers, leading to a £1,000 grant from Gosport Borough Council. With this funding she hired out a local play venue. After 3 years, Rachael embarked on a new adventure and opened an inclusion centre, restoring a 15 year vacant shop space. Tragically, an electrical fire and robbery led to loss of funding and as a result Rachael has converted her home into a sensory space for children and parents, providing access to all the sensory equipment they could possibly need. As one nominator said ‘the only thing bigger than Rachael’s generosity is her heart’.
