COMMUNITY ORGANISATION AWARD FOR GENDER –
Savera UK is a registered charity established to tackle domestic abuse and harmful practices in BME communities. ‘Savera’ means ‘new beginning’ in Hindi, a theme that is symbolic of the support the charity provides to those who are at risk of domestic abuse and harmful practices, comprised of Honour-Based Abuse (HBA), Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) and Forced Marriage, and also includes support around the issue of coercive control. Initially the majority of clients were women, but increasingly men are contacting the charity for information and Savera now provide support to men and women of all ages. In the last year this amazing organisation have reached over 1,000 young people through their Schools Project, trained over 850 individuals across different professional groups and communities, and provided holistic 1-1 support services for all their clients.
