John Bishop is a comedian, presenter and actor, who is also known for his charity work, having raised £4.2m for Sport Relief 2012. Last year, John supported a campaign led by a string of LGBT organisations against homophobic abuse and hate speech on social media. He lent his backing to a giant Twitter “thunderclap”, #no2LGBTHate, amid concern about the social media giant’s response to tackling online abuse. Earlier this year, John gave an emotional speech about his son while accepting the Ally of the Year Award at the British LGBT Awards. The funnyman also called for same-sex marriage to be legalised in Northern Ireland – where he’d previously visited to speak with the Rainbow Trust who put together the largest gay pride in Ireland. John has also supported the Come Out 2 Play initiative, a project designed to help people in the sporting world come out of the closet.
