The Barrie Wells Trust

SHORTLISTED NOMINEE:

COMMUNITY ORGANISATION AWARD FOR DISABILITY –

The Barrie Wells Trust was founded by philanthropist Barrie Wells in 2008. Barrie personally sponsored 18 athletes up to the 2012 Olympics, including Jessica Ennis, with 11 of them making the top six at the Olympics. The trust ran the Athetes4Schools scheme which brought 35,000 children face-to-face with 18 inspiring Olympic athletes. The Trust now focuses on the unique Box4Kids initiative which invites seriously ill children to enjoy a VIP experience at major sporting and entertainment events. Barrie had a dream that every unused corporate box throughout the country should be donated to give VIP experiences to seriously ill children. He launched the initiative in 2010 by purchasing an executive box at LFC for children from Alder Hey Children’s Hospital. Today over 100 organisations and individuals across the UK donate VIP boxes and Box4Kids has benefitted over 6,500 deserving guests!
