Hi im Shereen (she/her) i am a passionate advocate for LGBTQIA+ rights and have dedicated the past nine years of my career to supporting those at the intersection of queerness, migration, and marginalisation. Working at Sahir, Liverpool’s oldest HIV and LGBTQ+ wellbeing charity, I have been a driving force behind initiatives that uplift and empower LGBTQ+ people seeking sanctuary due to persecution based on their sexual orientation or gender identity.
As a British Indian lesbian, I bring my lived experience to every aspect of my work with an understanding of the complexity of navigating identity in the face of cultural and religious expectations, I try to use my story to inspire others and to challenge systems of inequality. I am committed to ensuring that those who are often silenced — particularly LGBTQ+ people of colour and those within the asylum system — are seen, heard, and supported.
Representation matters deepl. As a lesbian woman of colour, i am accutely aware of the gaps that still exist in leadership, visibility, and advocacy spaces. My work is grounded in the belief that true diversity and inclusion can only be achieved when those who have historically been excluded are given space not only to participate but to lead.
