Nominee Profile

Location: Kilburn
The Mango Ensemble is an award winning theatre company that champions diverse political voices at the core of our work. Inspired by our Founder’s mixed Indian heritage, we aim to create theatre that reflects the diversity of our society, we aim to produce 1-2 socio-political new plays per year and tour them around the UK. We travel to disadvantaged and rural areas as we recognise the need for theatre outside of London and seek to revive the rich tradition of theatre in our regions.

Alongside productions we host a range of events to support and nurture new work by global majority, working class and/or disabled artists. We provide paid mentorships for directors, writers and producers from these backgrounds to give them tangible experience in touring productions, as well as people to contact for advice and support long after their mentorship is over. Some of our mentees have gone on to have work produced nationally and assistant direct commercial musicals in the West End.

We also provide PWYC workshops and networking events for emerging artists. We recognise the lack of funding for early career artists and provide cheap or free opportunities for people to learn new skills in the industry to help them throughout their careers. As well as connect with us and other like minded artists.

As a company our core aims are to overcome the economic, discriminatory, and geographical restrictions that define our theatrical landscape, through supporting and creating opportunities for as many global majority, working class and/or disabled artists as we can afford to.
