She is one of the most recognisable names in British sport and is highly regarded for her work as a role model to young people. Kelly received an MBE in 1998 for services to the military and after leaving the Army, set her sights on the Olympics. Kelly is an Olympic, World, European and Commonwealth multi medallist and the 1st woman in Great Britain to win two Gold Medals at the same Olympic Games. Dame Kelly set up the Dame Kelly Holmes Trust in 2008 to help guide disadvantaged young people, getting their lives back on track by using world class athletes to engage, enable and empower, attitudes they need to fulfil a positive life. Kelly received her Damehood in 2005 for service to sport and is an award winning author and philanthropist. In June this year Dame Kelly publicly came out as gay, in a powerful documentary called Kelly Holmes: Being Me and explains how after 34 years she finally feels free to be her authentic self.
