Positive Role Model Award: Gender

 

After helping to launch the UK’s first women’s radio station Fem FM in 1992, Miranda’s career catapulted and placed her on a path that would see her fight against race and gender inequality. For the last 5 years, Miranda has sat at the helm of Sound Women South West – a support group boasting over 750 members, for women in radio and podcasting. Teaching over 1,000 women and girls of all ages from marginalised backgrounds in the last 3yrs, Miranda currently holds the post of Broadcast Manager at Ujima Radio, one of the UK’s only black talk radio stations. In addition to being hailed a ‘Gender Role Model’ at the Bristol Diversity Awards 2021, Miranda is also the proud recipient of a Lovie Award and was recently awarded Gold for Best Radio Podcast in the British Podcast Awards for her 6-part series of the UK’s first civil rights campaign, Our Journey.
