Community Organisation Award: Disability
The Disability Union have united with organisations, councils and members of parliament to raise awareness about equality and inclusion. They pride themselves on the ability to educate and help to form a deeper understanding of how important inclusion is. The organisation have been able to forge positive relationships with key decision makers and policy creators to make inclusion a priority, whether it is in democracy or education. Some of their community projects include providing much-needed services that have taken a huge hit by government cuts, hosting sensory play sessions, and providing support groups and workshops. Lead by the strategic development officer, Kirsty Smillie, The Disability Union Skills Academy is an online learning platform with over 700 accredited courses on anything from programming to beauty therapy. All of which are free to members of are free for members of the Disability Union.
