Stomping Grounds is a North East social enterprise working to bring communities together and reconnect them with nature; counteracting research that shows outdoor activities and access to green spaces are predominantly a white, male, middle class privilege. Stomping Grounds recognises that amplifying minority voices goes further than allyship and commit to employing people with lived experience of the barriers that communities face. A review of recruitment to create broader representation at leadership and delivery level has resulted in marginalised groups now being over-represented in all areas. Subsequently, the numbers from marginalised groups that access their provision has also increased. They currently work with over 5000 young people each year and offer a Positive Action programme which provides free and subsidised spaces to families who experience barriers to access.
