Community Organisation Award: Gender

Blackburne House is a Liverpool-based charity that empowers local, often vulnerable women through education, well-being, and social justice. Founded in 1983, the organisation offers nationally recognised qualifications, particularly in under-represented sectors, from a safe, inclusive space in a Grade II-listed building. Rooted in feminist and anti-racist values, Blackburne House provides a wide range of services including further education, a wellness centre, nursery, bistro, and enterprise support. It supports over 500 learners annually, with 83% from highly deprived areas and 29% declaring a disability. All programmes are designed with accessibility and inclusion at their core. Generating a £24.45 social return for every £1 invested, Blackburne House is a model of sustainable impact. It is recognised nationally for changing the trajectory of women’s lives through practical, empowering support enabling them to grow in confidence, skills, and independence across generations.
