2025 Shortlisted Nominee
Lifetime Achiever Award
Mik, born in 1965 in Luton, survived a rare cancer as a baby but became a full-time wheelchair user at 15 due to spinal complications. Undeterred, he pursued music, touring Europe and composing for TV and radio. Spotted during a live gig, Mik became a pioneering TV presenter in the 1990s as part of the UK’s first generation of disabled onscreen talent and won an Emmy in 1992. Later, he retrained as an access and inclusion expert, contributing to projects like the London 2012 Olympic Park. Today, as Co-CEO of the charity Phab, Mik leads transformative work through Phab ACTS, mentoring future disabled access professionals. A trailblazer with punk spirit and purpose, Mik’s legacy bridges media, advocacy, and impact. Known affectionately as “Grandad Crip Punk,” Mik continues to champion a world where disabled people are seen, heard, and fully included.
