Community Organisation Award: Disability
Pulp Friction Smoothie Bar CIO is a Nottingham-based charity supporting learning-disabled and autistic people to build confidence, independence, and work-ready skills in inclusive, real-world environments. Founded by Jessie and her mum Jill, what began as a smoothie bike at local events has evolved into a thriving charity operating a professional canteen at Nottinghamshire’s Joint Fire & Police HQ, serving 1,200 meals daily. Members gain hands-on experience, with several now in paid roles. From inclusive choirs and Nordic walking groups to food redistribution and award-winning projects like the RHS Chelsea Flower Show garden, Pulp Friction places community, creativity, and visibility at its heart. Through partnerships, advocacy, and training, they challenge perceptions and create meaningful opportunities for all. Every smoothie blended, meal served, and voice raised reflects their mission: to create kinder, more inclusive communities where everyone belongs, contributes, and thrives.
