Wai Yin Society is a pioneering community-led charity based in Greater Manchester, founded in 1988 by Hong Kong and Chinese women to support those facing domestic abuse, poverty, and isolation. Meaning “beautiful and intelligent,” Wai Yin reflects the dignity and strength of the communities it serves. Over 35 years, the organisation has expanded to support diverse ethnic groups, including Somali, Pakistani, Bangladeshi, and many others, providing culturally sensitive services across mental health, education, employment, safeguarding, and elder care. Wai Yin partners with universities for co-produced research to improve health equity for ethnically diverse communities. The charity advocates for inclusion at national forums and influences healthcare policies. Recognised with prestigious awards and royal invitations, Wai Yin remains committed to empowering marginalised individuals through holistic support, community engagement, and cultural celebration, building resilient, inclusive communities across Manchester and beyond.
