Windrush Foundation, co-founded by Arthur Torrington CBE and the late Sam King MBE, preserves the legacy of the Windrush Generation and celebrates the contributions of African and Caribbean people to British society. Through educational programmes, exhibitions, documentaries, and national events, the Foundation helped lay the groundwork for Windrush Day and brought Black British history into national focus. Arthur’s visionary leadership spans 30 years, co-founding The Equiano Society, curating major exhibitions, and collaborating with major heritage organisations, like the British Library. He has shaped national discourse on heritage, earning an OBE and later a CBE. His tireless work has transformed public understanding, inspired generations, and embedded African and Caribbean narratives into the fabric of British history. Recognised as a National Lottery Game Changer, Arthur continues to champion inclusion, education, and commemorations, making him a powerful force for equity and representation in the UK.
