Kuldip Johal is a long-standing Samaritans volunteer, community advocate and champion of inclusion in Luton, one of the UK’s most diverse towns. Drawing on her lived experience of hearing and sight disabilities, she champions accessibility, inclusion and representation within the community. Inspired by her own experience as a former Samaritans caller, she has supported people through some of life’s most difficult moments for nearly a decade. Alongside a full-time career, she volunteers as a Samaritans listening volunteer and Shift Leader, mentoring and supporting fellow volunteers while continuing to support people experiencing emotional distress. Recognised as Luton’s Best Volunteer of the Year, she champions compassion, dignity and the belief that no one should face a crisis alone.
