Proud Marys is Chester’s multi-generational, inclusive LGBTQ+ performance choir, founded in 2018 to reduce isolation and create a joyful, supportive space for queer community connection. What began as a small local singing project has grown into a vibrant, multi‑gender choir of up to 75 performers under the musical direction of Matt Baker, with choreography by Cariad Morgan. Proud Marys champion pride, visibility and creativity through music, with standout performances at Chester Pride, Eurovision Festival Liverpool, Hand in Hand Bristol and Cadogan Hall alongside the Pink Singers. Their ethos centres on community, identity, mutual support and the thrill of singing together.
