Trevor Lyttleton MBE is the founder of Re‑engage, formerly Contact the Elderly, a pioneering charity established in 1965 to combat loneliness among older people. He created one of Britain’s earliest and most enduring models of multi‑ethnic volunteering, bringing together diverse volunteers and isolated older guests in small friendship groups built on tea, conversation and companionship. Rejecting formal, duty‑based volunteering, he championed warmth, equality and human connection, enabling inclusive intergenerational relationships across faiths, cultures and backgrounds. Chairing the charity for fifty years, Trevor has transformed national attitudes to loneliness and community cohesion. For his long-term voluntary services as Chair of the charity Trevor was awarded an MBE in 2007, an Honorary DHL Liverpool Hope University in 2015 and the National Lottery Game Changer Award for Communities for his 60 year campaign against elderly isolation.
