Dr Alessandro Ceccarelli is a dedicated advocate and leader in the fields of LGBTQ+ rights, HIV awareness, and community empowerment, with an extensive record of impactful policy and campaign work.
Alessandro led the development and launch of the landmark LGBTQ+ Action Plan for Wales (2023), a groundbreaking and comprehensive strategy co-created with communities across Wales, driving significant advancements in equality and progressive policymaking centred around LGBTQ+ lived experiences. He also played a key role in supporting the development of the HIV Action Plan for Wales, further demonstrating his strategic influence and commitment to health equality.
A co-founder and pivotal figure of Fast Track Cymru, as a volunteer, Alessandro has dedicated over five years to this influential initiative aimed at ending new HIV transmissions in Wales by 2030. With an innovative and inclusive approach, he led the develop the first-ever "Wales HIV Testing Week" (now in year 4), the successful "Are You PrEPped?" campaign, and the impactful "Stop HIV Stigma in Wales" initiative, significantly raising awareness, increasing public engagement, and reducing stigma associated with HIV.
His commitment extends further through influential trustee roles with prominent organisations including the National AIDS Trust, the LGBT Consortium, the University of South Wales, and Merthyr College. Alessandro has notably contributed to the HIV Outcomes initiative, working to improve the quality of life for individuals living with HIV through policy advocacy and strategic interventions.
Currently, Alessandro serves as the Director of Services at METRO Charity in London, overseeing vital services that span HIV services, sexual and reproductive health, mental health and wellbeing, youth programmes, and dedicated LGBTQ+ support, reinforcing his commitment to inclusive and accessible community support.
