Nominee Profile
Location: Crawley
When I finally accepted myself as transgender in December 2021, I felt completely lost — isolated, lonely, and unsure where I fit in the world. But everything changed the day I discovered a support group run by Crawley LGBT. That group didn’t just offer me a safe space — it genuinely saved and transformed my life.
As my confidence grew, so did my desire to give back. In 2022, I took a huge step and signed up as a volunteer for Crawley Pride. It was a milestone moment for me — not only was it going to be my very first Pride, but it would also be the first time I could fully embrace and express myself as Alice, even if just for two days. I was still leading a double life, carefully navigating conversations with family and colleagues who didn’t yet know, so I arrived at Pride both terrified and exhilarated.
On top of that, I had just moved into my own flat the day before, having separated from my wife — it felt like the start of a brand new chapter. And that weekend, surrounded by love, acceptance, and community, something inside me shifted. For the first time, I felt seen, valued, and free.
That experience lit a fire in me. I threw myself into volunteering with Crawley LGBT, eventually stepping up to lead the Trans Social Group — a role that quickly became one of the most meaningful parts of my life. My dedication and passion didn’t go unnoticed, and I was humbled and proud to be invited to join the organisation as a Co-Director.
Driven by compassion and empathy, I also founded a support group for parents of trans youth — another safe space for understanding, education, and hope under the Crawley LGBT umbrella.
In early 2024, my journey came full circle when I was nominated — and to my absolute shock, won — Volunteer of the Year at the Gaydio Pride Awards. Being recognised in that way was overwhelming, but it only fuelled my passion to do more, to reach further, and to help others feel less alone.
I’ve since extended my advocacy beyond local spaces, hosting regular educational livestreams on TikTok, where I’ve built an incredible, supportive community of trans people and allies.
At the end of 2024, I joined Trans Radio UK as a presenter and took on the role of managing their TikTok channel, where I create a mix of fun, educational content that not only informs but uplifts — continuing to build communities where everyone feels safe, seen, and celebrated.
Looking back, the journey from that lost, lonely person in 2021 to the proud, visible advocate I am today feels like nothing short of a transformation — one I’m deeply grateful for every single day.
