Bridging the Bar

Nominee Profile
Location: London
Bridging the Bar is a charity committed to increasing access to the legal profession for individuals from underrepresented and marginalised backgrounds. Founded to challenge the entrenched inequality at the Bar, we believe that the legal system must reflect the diversity of the society it serves. Our mission is to dismantle the structural barriers that prevent talented aspiring barristers from succeeding, whether due to race, socioeconomic status, disability, or other intersecting factors.
At the heart of our work is the Bridging the Bar Academy, a flagship programme providing candidates with intensive, structured support including advocacy training, mentoring, judicial internships and application guidance. Our programmes are designed not only to create opportunity, but to foster confidence, build networks, and ensure lasting professional development.
What makes us unique is our integrated, results-driven approach. Rather than offering fragmented opportunities, we provide a full pipeline of support, addressing both the professional and cultural challenges faced by aspiring barristers. We work closely with legal organisations and chambers to influence recruitment practices and promote systemic change.
Bridging the Bar is not just about widening access, it’s about reshaping the future of the legal profession to make it fairer, more inclusive, and more representative of the communities it serves.
