Community Organisation Award for Age

Nominee Profile

Location: Nottingham

At just 15 years old, Freddie Vokes is already an extraordinary force for change. A passionate performer, musician, and youth leader, Freddie is breaking down barriers and redefining what young people—especially those who are neurodivergent—can achieve.
Despite being diagnosed with ASD, ADHD, dyspraxia, and being hard of hearing, Freddie has refused to let any of these challenges hold him back. Born prematurely and often underestimated, he has gone on to pass six Grade 8 music and drama exams, achieve two prestigious music diplomas, and perform as a harpist—an incredible feat for someone once told that coordination would be a lifelong struggle.

Freddie’s journey hasn’t been easy. He has faced severe bullying because of his neurodiversity, including a violent attack by one student that left him black and blue. Instead of letting that trauma define him, Freddie turned his pain into purpose. He now writes original music to support mental health awareness in young people, and every penny raised goes toward helping others feel less alone.
A natural leader, Freddie currently chairs his local youth council and previously served as Youth Mayor. He uses his voice to fight for better mental health support, inclusive education, and opportunities for young people from all backgrounds. His community impact includes raising thousands of pounds for causes such as supporting families affected by war, teenage cancer, and youth mental health.
Freddie recently founded his own music and drama school—his vision is to create a safe, supportive space where every young person, regardless of ability or background, can believe in their dreams and achieve their potential. His school is built on the values he lives by: patience, positivity, empathy, and kindness.
In 2025, Freddie is set to perform on the main stage at Notts Pride and Positively Empowered Kids, celebrating his role as an advocate for young people and mental wellbeing. He has also earned a place at the prestigious BOA to further his training in musical theatre, with the dream of performing on the West End one day.
Freddie has supported his foster brother through cancer, is now navigating his dad’s leukaemia diagnosis, and still finds time to uplift others through creativity, compassion, and courage.
Freddie Vokes is living proof that age is no barrier to impact, and that neurodiversity is a strength—not a limitation. He is a role model not just for young people, but for everyone who believes in turning adversity into hope and hardship into harmony.
