It Gets Better UK is a national charity that uplifts, supports and empowers LGBTQ+ young people through the power of storytelling. Part of the global It Gets Better project, the UK charity was founded to tackle isolation and invisibility by sharing authentic, hopeful stories from across the LGBTQ+ community.
At the heart of the organisation is a belief that storytelling saves lives. It Gets Better UK collects and shares real stories from LGBTQ+ people of all identities, backgrounds and experiences – stories of coming out, finding pride, overcoming adversity, and embracing joy. These stories show young people that they are not alone and that their future can be bright. One young person said simply: “I’m still alive because of you.”
Despite being a small team, the charity has reached thousands across the UK with its digital campaigns, volunteer-led initiatives and partnerships with Prides and LGBTQ+ organisations nationwide. Their intersectional approach ensures that often-overlooked voices – including trans, non-binary, disabled, and black and global majority voices – are heard, valued and celebrated.
