Jade Farrington

Positive Role Model Award

Positive Role Model Award for Disability: Sponsor - BT

Nominee Profile

Location: Cornwall
Jade is a counsellor and therapist who works in a neurodivergent-affirming way, conceptualising neurodivergence as disability and difference rather than disorder.

Research shows the key to good self-esteem is a positive neurodivergent identity. Jade supports individuals to find theirs, while creating lives that work in tune with their brains and nervous systems.

Jade is multiply neurodivergent, and bone cancer resulted in her femur being replaced with a prosthesis aged 9.

She works to promote acceptance of disabled people and challenge ableism. Her Neurodiversity Newsletter provides ND people, families and professionals with a free monthly round-up of neuro-affirming information, resources, research, and upcoming online events and training.

Jade highlights disabled people who create information that acknowledges and validates both challenges and strengths. She also uses her Substack newsletter to promote others through the ‘Spotlight on…’ series which introduces subscribers to neuro-affirming ideas and professionals.

Jade’s ‘Page of the Week’ promotes Facebook pages to help spread awareness and bring them to a wider audience.

She brought together dozens of neurodivergent professionals and parents to create A Community Guide to a Happy Neurodivergent Christmas – a free ebook which was downloaded thousands of times. The book’s liberating content was celebrated by ND-run organisations and charities, to NHS consultants and schools, and even inspired a special episode of The Autistic Culture Podcast.

Jade founded the Happy Neurodivergent Life Facebook group - a friendly, neurodivergent-affirming community for ND adults to share affirming information, learn from one another, and develop connection.

Jade is a World Drug Free Powerlifting Federation bench press world champion, where she competed against able-bodied athletes to triumph in her weight category.
