John Hyland (he/they) is a Liverpool-based LGBTQ+ activist, community advocate and storyteller with nearly 20 years of experience championing equality, visibility and inclusion. A proud Scouser and former co-chair of Liverpool Pride, John helped co-found the LCR Pride Foundation, reshaping the region’s approach to Pride and LGBTQ+ representation.

Their work spans civic leadership, grassroots organising, and community development, with a particular focus on amplifying marginalised voices and building lasting community partnerships. John currently serves as Community Partnerships Lead at Sahir — Liverpool’s oldest LGBTQ+ and HIV charity — where he continues to advocate for justice, access and belonging for all.

Known for their warmth, wit and unwavering commitment to equity, John is passionate about storytelling, mental health, and the power of lived experience to drive change. Their journey — from online content creator to public servant and community connector — reflects a lifelong dedication to making spaces safer, kinder and more inclusive for LGBTQ+ people everywhere.
