Positive Role Model Award

Positive Role Model Award for Disability: Sponsor - BT

Nominee Profile

Location: Oxfordshire
I'm Julie, a compassionate mentor and youth work professional with over 25 years of experience supporting vulnerable individuals, particularly those who are neurodivergent. Living with ADHD and dyslexia myself, I bring both professional expertise and lived experience to my work through my business "Living in Full Bloom."

After receiving my ADHD diagnosis in 2020 following an earlier dyslexia diagnosis in 2008, I've transformed my personal journey of acceptance into a platform for supporting others. My work focuses on creating neuro-affirming spaces where neurodivergent teens and their parents can explore personal growth with dignity and understanding.

My professional background includes roles as a CEO of a youth organisation, Designated Safeguarding Lead, and key worker supporting vulnerable young people. I hold a BA (Hons) in Youth & Community Work and am currently pursuing a Level 5 Professional Diploma in Counselling.

What sets my approach apart is my willingness to share my personal challenges with invisible disabilities. Through blog posts and creative writing, I explore topics like transitions, emotional regulation, and accepting support - topics that resonate deeply with the neurodivergent community. My poem "That's My Seat" captures the sensory needs many neurodivergent individuals experience.

I combine professional knowledge with authentic vulnerability to create safe spaces where neurodivergent teens and parents feel truly understood. By modelling self-acceptance and advocating for appropriate accommodations, I empower others to embrace their neurodivergent identities while developing practical strategies for navigating a neurotypical world.
