Nominee Profile
Location: Flintshire
I’m a therapist, educator, and researcher specialising in all things eating disorders. I turned my own lived experience of an eating disorder into a story of hope, and now combine that insight with clinical training, research involvement, and years of working alongside people affected by eating disorders.
My key roles include:
- Kel O’Neill Counselling & Training – I run a specialist private practice working 1-2-1 with folks with EDs. I also deliver training to therapists, schools, and organisations. My focus is on challenging assumptions, reducing harm, and improving understanding of eating disorders in real-world contexts.
- Mental Health Bites (MHB) – A public-facing platform where I share accessible content about mental health, therapy, and recovery.
- The ED Recovery Companion (TRC) – A peer-informed, subscription-based resource designed to offer consistent resources to people in recovery—especially those who feel unseen in traditional systems or stuck on waiting lists.
- LEED (Lived Experience and Eating Disorders) – I co-founded this collective to bring lived experience into research and training, working on projects that aim to shift practice and policy.
- VOXED – I’m the founder of VOXED (Voices of Experience in Eating Disorders), an online conference making eating disorder knowledge more accessible, and a little bold!
- Research collaborations – I’m involved in several national projects, including:
Exploring the impact of ‘fat clubs’ (Lincoln University)
Working with Body Happy Org and Lincoln University exploring the impact of their work.
Partnering with UCL Centre for Brain Science on inclusive, EDI-focused research.
Early Intervention in Eating Disorders Task Force – I sit on this all wales group focused on improving early access to support and transforming how services understand and respond to eating disorders.
