Kyrelle Lammy

Nominee Profile
Location: Coventry
Kyrelle is 13 years old and a successful child actor but he also has sickle cell anaemia which makes just living- let alone acting also-harder in general. Kyrelle has homozygous sickle cell type SS, a debilitating blood disorder mainly affecting afro carribean people. Which means that Kyrelle also has regular hospital visits, stays and endures severe painful crisis at home and in hospital requiring morphine, oxygen, fluid therapy, xrays, blood samples and blood transfusions.
Sickle cell disease is known as the "ghost disease" due to the often subtle or seemingly invisible nature of the disease to the eyes of others.
This "ghost-like" presence can make it difficult for people to recognise and understand what he is going through.
He inspires people and is a positive role model because he never lets his disability get in his way and inspires people to donate blood through them following his and his brother's journey on social media. We get a lot of messages often saying that they are "superheros" and that they have made someone donate blood as sickle cell warriors require frequent blood transfusions. Kyrelle's brother Tyrae also has sickle cell anaemia so he inpsires his brother daily by staying strong and just living life to the fullest and showing his brother to never give up despite being chronically ill.
