Nominee Profile

Location: London
I have over 20 years’ experience as a trustee/non - executive director in a wide range of charitable organisations working on a diverse range of social justice issues. This has included several years in a Vice Chair/Chair role. I've generally been the only person from a Black or Asian heritage on the nine charity boards I've sat on.

I’m the Founder of the newly registered charity, Board Racial Diversity UK, aimed at addressing the significant under-representation of individuals from Black and Asian backgrounds on trustee Boards. I founded its successor organisation, Action for Trustee Racial Diversity singlehandedly and singlemindedly in 2019 and using a diverse team of volunteers. A key achievement of the charity has been my production of a Guide - From Here to Diversity: A practical guide to recruiting Black and Asian charity trustees. I've also been primarily responsible for initiating and developing a range of other resources to support charities keen to increase their board diversity but not knowing how to go about doing so.

I'm currently a trustee of three charities, the Association of Chairs, the national umbrella body for Chairs of charities across the UK, the British American Drama Academy and the Charles Dickens Museum. I 'm also an Independent Panel Member of the Ministry of Justice Public Appointments Panel, Panel Chair for the new initiative, Charity Hall of Fame, and most recently appointed a member of the steering group for the Clore Social Leadership new Leadership Lighthouse programme.

I am a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and a Companion of the Chartered Management Institute, which recognised my EDI contributions to civil society.
