Nubian Jak Community Trust (NJCT)

Nominee Profile
Location: London
The Nubian Jak Community Trust (NJCT), founded in 2006, is one of the UK’s leading organisations dedicated to honouring African, Caribbean and global majority contributions to British society. Our mission—rooted in Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging (DEIB)—addresses historical omission and inspires a united, representative national identity.
We lead Europe’s only commemorative plaque and sculpture programme exclusively for Black and minority ethnic communities. To date, we have installed 113 plaques and 3 public monuments in the UK and abroad, including the largest Blue Plaque in the world and one on HM Foreign Office for Ignatius Sancho. In 2025, we installed a plaque for Marcus Garvey in Atlanta, Georgia.
Our African and Caribbean War Memorial in Brixton is the UK’s first and only national memorial dedicated to over two million African and Caribbean service personnel who served in both World Wars. Our Windrush & NHS Nurses and Midwives statue at Whittington Hospital is the first UK monument to honour Black NHS founders.
We pioneered RAF Commemoration Day—bringing communities, veterans and young people together annually in landmark remembrance events.
We reach and inspire the next generation through school programmes, workshops, educational publications, and the award-winning Nubian Jak board game. Our Black Plaque Project with Havas London challenges historical gatekeeping and promotes underrepresented legacies.
Through education, art and civic commemoration, NJCT redefines inclusion in public life, making DEIB visible, lasting, and transformative.
