Positive Role Model Award

Positive Role Model Award for Disability: Sponsor - BT

Nominee Profile

Location: Wirral
I'm super proud to have been nominated in the category Positive Role Model for Disability. Not least because that’s what I aspire to be. Here is a little about who I am and what I do.
I am a SEND Manager with responsibility for Stakeholder Engagement in Wirral. I am Mum to two fantastic SEND young men so know only too well how much a positive mindset is needed to overcome some of the frustrations and struggles of daily life.
I am passionate and clear about what needs to be done, how it will best be achieved, am uber proactive and well respected in the community. I care. A great deal.
Working with Health, Education, Social care, 3rd sector organisations, Parent/Carers and our amazing SEND young people, I work hard to bring people together to listen to one another, to learn from one another. By listening, a greater understanding and respect develops.
Working with our SEND young people is by far the best part of the work I do. I learn so much from them. From that group I identified the potential of a SEND young person who could bring their lived experience to help me and others shape future provision. Their inclusion would ensure there was a constant strand of SEND youth voice in all we do. The appointment of Wirral's first SEND Youth Engagement Officer was a huge positive step forward bringing inspiration to other young people and their Parent/carers alike. The value of this cannot be understated.
I offer work experience and supported internships to our SEND youngsters to help them recognise their worth. Something very much needed.
Keeping people connected and informed as they work their way through the world of SEND is tricky. I'm a people person and lucky to be able to 'reach' people. They trust me to do what I say. I will always champion the underdog. Inclusion is key! I network for Britain & connect people to bring about what's needed. I am trusted (a huge, no massive deal) & respected. My can do mentality serves me well, there's always a solution, right?
