Start Young UK is a passionate, community-driven charity dedicated to empowering young people aged 5 to 18 from disadvantaged backgrounds through programmes that promote social inclusion and social mobility. What began as a simple Christmas gifting initiative — aimed at giving back to those in need — quickly grew into a vision for lasting impact, creating long-term support and meaningful opportunities for young people and their families.
Our programmes support children from as young as 5 years old by providing essential items like school uniforms, matching them with buddies, and offering placements in local community clubs. These clubs not only provide valuable downtime for parents but also help children build confidence, learn respect, and develop a strong sense of belonging within their communities.
Founded by an individual whose tireless commitment to the community has since been recognised with an MBE, Start Young UK has blossomed into a force for change. Her passion has brought together a dedicated board of trustees — all of whom balance full-time careers — and two part-time staff members, united by a shared mission to reach and uplift the next generation.
As a non-profit organisation, every penny raised is reinvested directly into supporting young people. Through two flagship programmes focused on building confidence, skills, and pathways into education and employment, Start Young UK is breaking down barriers and opening doors. From humble beginnings, this simple act of giving has shown that with passion and community spirit, anything is possible.
