Nominee Profile

Location: Northumberland
Alex is a Chartered Engineer, Entrepreneur, Speaker and Founder of STEMAZING.

From shy imposter to award-winning engineer and Founder, Visiting Professor, TEDx Speaker and visible role model speaking on stages and appearing on TV.

Alex founded STEMAZING in 2019 as a side hustle alongside her day job as a Technical Director for an Engineering Consultancy. In 2021 she sold her house, left her job and even cancelled her Netflix subscription so she could follow her passion of equity, diversity and inclusion in STEM by dedicating herself full time to the STEMAZING mission.

5 years on STEMAZING has trained over 600 women in STEM to be more visible role models through Alex's unique award-winning Public Engagement programme, and these women have collectively delivered over 160,000 STEMAZINGKids engagements in Primary schools with high % free-school-meals.

Alex strives to be a visible role model as a woman in engineering herself. Developing her own confidence and speaking skills from being a shy wallflower to a TEDx Speaker. Her TEDx Talk - Why Visibility, Courage and Sex Matter in Engineering - has been viewed 140,000 times in 2025 to date.

Alex also volunteers her time to mentor many women in engineering from undergraduates to women at various stages in their STEM careers.
