Nominee Profile

Location: Wrexham
Wrexham Africa Community is a grassroots organisation rooted in unity, resilience, and celebration of cultural heritage. Founded to amplify the voices of African and Afro-Caribbean residents in Wrexham and beyond, the group has become a beacon of inclusion, advocacy, and community empowerment.

Driven by its vision of a cohesive, anti-racist society, Wrexham Africa Community has successfully delivered projects that bridge divides, promote understanding, and celebrate the richness of African cultures. Their flagship event, Afro Fiesta, now an annual celebration held in Bellevue Park, has grown into a vibrant, multicultural festival that welcomes thousands of people from all backgrounds to enjoy music, food, art, and storytelling from across the African continent and the diaspora.

The group also leads on workshops, community consultations, bilingual outreach, and educational events aligned with the Anti-Racist Wales Action Plan. Their work addresses community cohesion, combats discrimination, and creates safe, inclusive spaces for people of all ages—especially ethnic minorities, refugees, and asylum seekers.

Through tireless volunteering, creative initiatives, and strong partnerships, Wrexham Africa Community continues to champion equality, well-being, and cultural pride. This nomination for the National Diversity Awards 2025 recognises the powerful impact of their grassroots activism in building a stronger, fairer, and more connected society.
