Down Syndrome UK
Nominee Profile
Location: London
Down Syndrome UK is a national, parent-led charity tackling inequality experienced by people with Down syndrome from diagnosis through to adulthood.
We focus on two critical stages where inequality is most pronounced. The first is maternity and early diagnosis, where families often receive inconsistent, outdated or overly negative information. We work to improve these experiences through lived-experience led resources and training for healthcare professionals, helping families feel informed, supported and respected from the very beginning.
The second is education and early development. Children with Down syndrome are often underestimated and not supported in line with their learning profile. We provide evidence-informed training and programmes for early years settings and schools, equipping professionals with practical strategies that lead to better learning, communication and inclusion outcomes.
Our work combines lived experience with professional expertise, allowing us to influence both individual experiences and wider systems. By addressing inequality at these key points, we aim to raise expectations, improve outcomes and ensure that people with Down syndrome are supported to thrive.
