Frankie Dunn

Positive Role Model Award

Positive Role Model Award for Disability

Nominee Profile

Location: Hove
Frankie is a passionate self-advocate. Working for Campaign 4 Change Self Advocacy Group, she devotes her time to promoting the need for people with profound and multiple learning disabilities to be seen and heard in national policy and in society generally.
As a person with multiple disabilities, she is able to advocate from her lived experience. She does not use speech, and communicates via eye gaze and facial expressions.
Among her campaigns are the need for increased Changing Places toilets in town centres, so herself and others can go shopping without the need to come home early simply because there is no toilets available.
She presented at a national Learning Disability England Conference on supporting people with multiple disabilities to have a ‘good life’ presenting to 300 delegates.
Frankie is keen to demonstrate to others that people with profound and multiple learning disabilities can contribute to society, should be seen as equals and deserve to be included in national policy. She is committed to true accessibility, not just of buildings but in our local communities as equal, valued citizens and will continue to work hard with that in mind. Frankie's direct influence on her peers has been profound, leading to ensuring her messages are relayed to the Baroness Casey Adult Social Care Review.
