Hi I’m Jenna. I’m 38 years old and I’m from Beverley in East Yorkshire. I’ve been living with functional neurological disorder since 2019 where my speech and mobility was robbed from me but thankfully I’ve now gotten this back so I’m able to use my voice again. and I’ve recently had surgery for an ileostomy stoma. I’ve been living with slow transit constipation for 8 years and it’s been the worst time of my life. But also now it’s turned out to have been the best decision for me. And now I’m raising awareness for people who suffer with slow transit constipation to not suffer in silence and to get the help they need. But unfortunately having a Stoma has come with its down falls and that’s been using disabled toilets and getting verbally attacked by the public for doing so. So this has made me want to make a change and also to help people with hidden disabilities to be able to feel confident in using them. All I’m trying to do is petitioning for better signage on all toilet doors to say not all disability’s are visible and also to get better facilities in disabled toilets for people with stomas. This has put a fire In my belly to make a change. It’s to raise awareness of people with hidden disabilities as I still think we are stuck in our own ways of thinking people shouldnt be able to walk in and out an accessible toilet. Or that Everyone should be in a wheelchair if they want to use the disabled toilets. I’m really hoping that my campaigning with colostomy uk can make this better and also get more people registered to their amazing toilet finder on their website. Remember all disabilities come in all shapes and sizes. And I’m proud to say I have already helped so many people on my Instagram page with keeping my journey real and relatable.
Anyone should be able to use a disabled toilet without the abuse or even refused a radar key because the shop thinks you “look ok”
I have a government petition for this aswell.
