Community Organisation Award for Disability

Nominee Profile

Location: Wickford
MyOTAS (My Own Time and Space) is a parent-led charity based in Wickford, Essex, dedicated to improving the lives of neurodivergent children, young people and their families. Established in 2019 and registered as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO 1184723), MyOTAS was created by parents with lived experience who understand the challenges families face in navigating education, health, social care and everyday life.

The charity delivers support through three core pillars: inclusive activities for children and young people, family support, and increasing awareness and acceptance in the wider community. Its accessible sessions include nature-based, creative, movement and wellbeing activities designed to build confidence, improve emotional regulation, reduce isolation and create opportunities for connection. Alongside this, MyOTAS offers peer support groups, one-to-one guidance, workshops, training, newsletters, online communities and practical resources that empower parents and carers to advocate for their children and improve family wellbeing.

Beyond frontline delivery, MyOTAS works with schools, local authorities, health services and community organisations to improve understanding of neurodiversity and influence more inclusive practice. Through collaboration, consultancy and advocacy, the charity ensures the voices of neurodivergent children and their families are heard both locally and nationally. Rooted in kindness, inclusion and innovation, MyOTAS continues to build a future where every neurodivergent child and family feels accepted, supported and able to thrive.
