NeuroAware CIC
Nominee Profile
Location: County Durham
I am the founder of NeuroAware CIC, a community-focused organisation supporting neurodivergent individuals and the parents and carers of children with SEND to navigate complex systems with clarity, confidence and legally grounded guidance.
NeuroAware was built from lived experience. After receiving diagnoses of ADHD and autism at 40, while raising a neurodivergent child, I found myself navigating a system that was overwhelming, inconsistent and, at times, unlawful in practice. Like many families, I experienced prolonged stress, uncertainty and the emotional toll of fighting for support. The impact was significant enough that I made the difficult decision to leave my full-time career of 16 years, as the demands of navigating the SEND system became unsustainable alongside employment.
Rather than accept this as the norm, I chose to understand the system in depth, using my legal background to advocate effectively and secure the support my child was entitled to.
What began as personal necessity has developed into a structured, purpose-driven organisation.
Through NeuroAware, I provide EHCP support, SEND advocacy, accessible resources and training for schools, professionals and organisations. My work focuses on translating complex legal frameworks into clear, practical guidance that families can actually use, while supporting professionals to strengthen inclusive and legally compliant practice.
NeuroAware addresses a clear and growing gap. With statutory services overstretched, many families are unable to access timely, accurate support. I have already supported families to understand their rights, prepare evidence and navigate key decisions, reducing stress and improving outcomes.
I bring 16 years of senior leadership experience, a law degree, and detailed SEND expertise, combined with lived experience as a parent.
My vision is to grow NeuroAware into a trusted SEND support hub across the North East, influencing both individual outcomes and the systems that shape them, so that no family is left to navigate SEND alone.
