NION women (Not In Our Name)
Nominee Profile
Location: London
NION Women is a collective of everyday women speaking up for trans inclusion, and working for a fairer, kinder world for all.
NION believes that the rights of trans people and cis women are inextricably linked, and that standing with the trans+ community means standing against movements that threaten the rights and freedoms of all.
In April 2025, the UK Supreme Court ruled that the terms "woman" and "man" in the Equality Act should be defined in terms of "biological sex" alone. This was positioned by anti-trans campaigners as a "victory" for cis women and leveraged to fuel a narrative that pitted the rights of trans people against those of cis women.
NION Women was formed in direct response to this, to show just how many cis women stand in solidarity with trans people and support their inclusion. They wrote an open letter that has already been signed by 100,000 UK cis women, and continues to grow by the hour.
Over the last year, NION has become an essential voice in discussions about trans rights, challenging the harmful narrative that trans rights and women's rights are in conflict. NION Women has been quoted in the Guardian, Huffington Post, Good Morning Britain and LGBTQ Nation; appeared on stage at TransMission Live; marched in the Women's Bloc at the Together Alliance march; and built relationships with MPs, public figures and organisations committed to genuine intersectional solidarity.
NION Women is run by a small, dedicated team of volunteers who keep the focus on the message rather than on individuals. NION’s narratives are not about threat, anger or exclusion; they seek to bring people together, not divide them further. NION is a safe, welcoming space and its approach is based on love, respect and acceptance. The signatures on the NION open letter are evidence that trans-inclusive feminism is not a "niche" or "radical" position — it is a mainstream, everyday one. NION Women is building the connections, evidence and infrastructure to make that message impossible to ignore.
