Pippa Stacey

Positive Role Model Award

Positive Role Model Award for Disability

Nominee Profile

Location: York
Pippa is on a mission to reframe the way we think about chronic illness. Instead of embodying the ‘inspirational’ superhero who overcomes their condition, or the poor soul people feel they should pity, she uses her voice and platforms to carve out a new narrative. Through her work and content, Pippa looks for the silver linings in life and facilitates change while remaining real about the barriers she faces.

Pippa is the author of 4 books and is best known for the award-winning How To Do Life With A Chronic Illness. This book is the first of its kind, approaching chronic illness in a way that aligns with the social model of disability. She weaves her lived experience into practical, actionable advice to help people reconnect with their identity and reclaim joy alongside their careful symptom management. It has been cherished worldwide, and the self-narrated audiobook was awarded Audible’s Best Of The Year.

As a speaker, Pippa delivers high-profile talks and training around disability inclusion to workplaces, charities, universities, and community groups. She became a TEDx speaker aged 25, speaking on redefining success as a disabled person, and has been media trained by the BBC, with broadcast experience across TV and radio.

Pippa is also a communication consultant and one of the UK’s only experts in Energy Limiting Conditions and employment. She works closely with the charity Astriid, delivering monthly webinars that equip participants with skills to support their job search and advocate for themselves at work.

As a content creator, Pippa has built a thriving online community. Her work reminds people that they’re not alone, and over the years she's raised over £8,000 for chronic illness charities, through her former social enterprise Spoonie Survival Kits and her popular online 'Chronic Illness Bingo' events.

Pippa aims to empower people with chronic illnesses to follow their own path in life, taking meaningful and accessible steps towards the life they choose.
