Proud Marys LGBT+ choir
Nominee Profile
Location: Chester Business Park
Founded in 2018 as a local singing project, Proud Marys have grown from a small informal group into a confident, inclusive LGBTQ+ community performance choir. Many original members had never performed before; today we are a vibrant, diverse, multi-gender group of up to 75 performers.
Led by Musical Director Matt Baker, with inspired choreography by the ever creative Cariad Morgan, the choir continues to celebrate LGBTQ+ pride, visibility, creativity, and community connection through music.
Major milestones include:
Regular opening act at Chester Pride
Represented the UK in the video launch of Abba Voyage with a five minute slot seen by a livestream audience of over 200,000 (2021)
Performed at Eurovision Festival in Liverpool (2023)
Performed at Hand in Hand, the UK’s Festival of LGBTQ+ Choirs at the Bristol Beacon (2024)
Invited to perform alongside the Pink Singers, Europe’s longest established LGBT Choir, at Cadogan Hall, London (2025)
Our ethos continues to centre on community, joy, identity, mutual support, visibility — and the thrill of singing together.
Proud Marys choir is committed to equal opportunities, diversity and inclusion within our choir community and beyond. We aim for our performances, membership opportunities, community work, employment procedures and management and decision-making processes to be accessible to, and inclusive of everyone. We actively oppose discrimination, harassment and bullying in all its forms.
