Padre Caldwell is a Church of England priest serving as a British Army Chaplain and currently Brigade Chaplain to 12 Armoured Brigade. Throughout his career, he has made a significant and lasting difference by championing inclusion across race, religion and belief within Defence.
He has served with the Coldstream Guards, Queen’s Royal Hussars, 29 Commando Regiment Royal Artillery, the Infantry Training Centre, and 104 Theatre Sustainment Brigade, and is a graduate of the Intermediate Command and Staff Course at the Defence Academy. His operational experience includes deployments on Operation TOSCA (Cyprus) with the United Nations, as well as Belize (Jungle warfare), Norway (Arctic warfare), Afghanistan, Canada and the United States, where he has consistently supported personnel in demanding environments.
Driven by a belief that organisations are stronger when the potential of diversity is unlocked, Padre Caldwell has dedicated his chaplaincy work to supporting those from diverse faith, belief and minority backgrounds. He has undertaken pioneering research into how multi-faith and non-religious chaplaincy teams can flourish, helping to shape more inclusive leadership practice within Defence and beyond. He has also actively supported diversity networks, promoting the wellbeing, representation and inclusion of minority personnel.
He has led transformative projects to create inclusive spaces, including the refurbishment of the Garrison Church in Catterick Garrison, the development of an outdoor classroom at the Infantry Training Centre, and the creation of multi-faith and belief facility within the grounds of the Church at South Cerney. These initiatives have improved belonging, access and wellbeing for thousands of soldiers.
