Steph Richards
Nominee Profile
Location: Portsmouth
I am deeply honoured to have been nominated for this prestigious award - thank you to whoever nominated me.
I am a human rights campaigner committed to an intersectional feminist agenda, championing equality across age, class, disability, neurodiversity, race, religion, sexuality, and gender identity. My work spans women's health equity, trans rights, and building inclusive communities where everyone is seen and valued.
As the former CEO of a women's health charity, I understand first-hand the systemic barriers marginalised communities face in accessing care and support. I went on to found TransLucent, a transgender advocacy organisation, and co-founded Women's Action Network Portsmouth - spaces created to amplify voices that too often go unheard. I also serve as an Equalities Officer with Unite the Union, sitting on two regional committees, where I work to embed equality principles at the heart of trade union organising.
My advocacy takes many forms. I regularly speak at Stand Up To Racism events, give deputations to my local council on issues ranging from welcoming refugees to improving public health, and lobby parliamentarians on women's health, including the urgent need for more women's health hubs and improved funding for endometriosis. I have spoken at Parliament and been featured across national media, including LBC and ITV's Good Morning Britain.
Whether I'm addressing a national audience or attending a community meeting, my conviction remains the same: change is built from the ground up.
People matter.
