The SPACE group Manchester

Community Organisation Award

Community Organisation Award for Disability

Nominee Profile

Location: Greater Manchester
SPACE Group Manchester is a grassroots, volunteer-led organisation created by parents of children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) who recognised the lack of accessible support, understanding and inclusive opportunities available for families like their own.

Built on lived experience, the organisation is led by a dedicated team of volunteers, many of whom are parents of SEND children or neurodivergent themselves. This shared understanding shapes everything SPACE does and creates a safe, welcoming environment where families feel genuinely understood, supported and free from judgement.

What began as a small peer support group has grown into a vital community network for SEND families across Manchester. The SPACE team provides peer-to-peer support, advocacy, workshops and guidance to help families navigate complex systems such as education and support services.

Alongside this, the organisation delivers hundreds of inclusive activities and events throughout the year, creating opportunities for SEND children and their families to connect, build friendships and make lasting memories in environments where they feel accepted and celebrated.

Through compassion, lived experience and a shared commitment to equality and inclusion, the SPACE team has built a supportive community where families feel empowered, valued and never alone on their journey.
