Positive Role Model Award

Positive Role Model Award for Age

Nominee Profile

Location: Essex
I’m 21, White/Asian, and I was adopted as a child. I have a learning disability and autism. Growing up, I found school really hard and often felt like I didn’t fit into the usual paths or expectations. I struggled to see where I belonged or what my future could be.

After leaving school, I knew I needed something that gave me purpose. That’s how I started The Hut Mersea Island CIC. What began as a way to find my own direction has become something much bigger. We now support families—many living with disability, illness, or facing difficult times—by giving them the chance to make special memories by the sea.

Losing my brother changed my life. It gave me a deep understanding of grief, but also of how important time together really is. That experience drives everything I do. I want every family we support to feel valued, included, and able to create moments that matter.

I want to be a positive role model. I want other young people like me to see that having a learning disability or autism does not limit what you can achieve—it just means your path might look different.

Now, I’m taking the next step—looking at how The Hut CIC can offer opportunities to other young people like me, helping them build confidence, skills, and a sense of purpose.

I turned feeling lost into helping others feel found—creating not just memories by the sea, but futures people can believe in.
